Third Fantastic Beasts Movie Gets November 2021 Release

It’s no secret that Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald wasn’t really up to snuff. Not only was it poorly received by critics and fans, but it only managed to take in $653.7 million worldwide, making it the least successful Wizarding World film to date — and a huge step down from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them‘s $812 million haul. It wasn’t exactly a failure, but it’s something that was certainly worth reassessing in some way.

Earlier this year, we reported on the news that the third film in the planned five-film franchise would be getting delayed for scheduling reasons. This would, without a doubt, result in the movie getting pushed back. Now, we have a date for the third film — November 12, 2021, roughly three years after the second one, meaning it is getting an extra year to bake in the oven, so to speak.

“J.K. Rowling created an awe-inspiring universe that has captivated people of all ages, taking us on an extraordinary magical journey,” Ron Sanders, president of Worldwide Theatrical Distribution and Home Entertainment of Warner Bros., said in the announcement. “Warner Bros. is so proud to be the cinematic home of the Wizarding World and is excited about the future of the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise. We look forward to bringing the third chapter of the five-film series to audiences around the globe in November 2021.”

“We are incredibly excited about and have confidence in the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ series,” Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group said in a statement. “We all believe this release date will give the filmmakers time and space to allow their artistry to truly flourish and deliver the best possible film to our fans.”

This also comes following a period of fan backlash on multiple fronts against author and screenwriter J.K. Rowling. Many are growing tired of what they perceive as constant retcons, and there’s another group that aren’t fans of some of the diversity choices she has made. And then there are those who simply weren’t a fan of how the previous film was executed from a story standpoint.

We’ll see if that extra year is enough for them to create more goodwill with the fans. But what do you think? Let us know your thoughts down below!
