Third Installment Of Sherlock Holmes Gets A Release Date

Looks like we are finally going to get a third installment of the Sherlock Holmes franchise from Warner Bros. Pictures according to The Wrap. It has been given a release date of Christmas Day 2020. For the moment there are no confirmations on whether or not the stars of the first two films in the franchise, Robert Downey Jr. & Jude Law, will reprise their roles. No director has been chosen for the project for the moment. The director for the previous two films, Guy Ritchie, is currently busy directing Disney’s Aladdin which will be released next year.

Sherlock Holmes has had some success for Warner Bros. Pictures with Downey winning a Golden Globe in 2010 for his role as Holmes. Also the sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows grossed $545 million worldwide.

Downey has quite the schedule coming up as he is starring in The Voyage of Dr. Dolittle as well as next years Avengers: Infinity War. Both of these are scheduled to be released next year. As for Law, he will be in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald as Albus Dumbledore as well next year’s Captain Marvel. Although they have very busy schedules, it would be hard for me to believe that Warner Bros. would make another Sherlock Holmes film without at least Downey.

Returning to the franchise will be producers Susan Downey, Joel Silver and Lionel Wigram. Netflix’s Narcos co-creator Chris Brancato is currently attached to write the script.
