Tolkien Featurette Highlights The Author’s Influence On The Stars

J.R.R. Tolkien is a name that’s gone on to inspire countless lives over the course of the last several decades. Of course, in the world of high fantasy novels, he’s influenced generations of authors, who often adhered to his particular brand of fantasy, for better or worse. From authors like Terry Brooks to Brandon Sanderson, his influence in the space is undeniable. It wasn’t until decades later that that influence reverberated throughout mainstream film audiences with Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Very soon, audiences will be able to peek into his world in the film Tolkien, which follows his time in World War I and the seeds that were planted in creating the world of Middle-earth. The film stars Nicholas Hoult and Lily Collins, and in a new featurette for the film, the two interview each other on when they first read Tolkien’s work and how it influenced their individual lives. Over the course of the video, we’re also treated to a good deal of new movie footage in addition to behind-the-scenes clips.

TOLKIEN explores the formative years of the renowned author’s life as he finds friendship, courage and inspiration among a fellow group of writers and artists at school. Their brotherhood strengthens as they grow up and weather love and loss together, including Tolkien’s tumultuous courtship of his beloved Edith Bratt, until the outbreak of the First World War which threatens to tear their fellowship apart.
