Tom Holland’s Drunken Phone Call To Bob Iger Apparently Helped Save Spider-Man

Nerds went through a period of disappointment as not long ago we all had to face the fact that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man was leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Days went by and our hopes of Disney and Sony reaching another mutually beneficial deal were waining.

And then, it happened. The news came down that Holland’s Spider-Man would stay in the MCU, for the time being at least. As it turns out, Holland himself might have had a hand in making this a reality. In the video above as well as the quotes I’ve pulled below, Holland explains a drunken phone call to Disney head Bob Iger. You can check it out below.

“We were at D23 and the news came out and I was obviously devastated. It was awful. I asked if I could get Bob Iger’s email because I just wanted to say, ‘Thank you, this has been an amazing five years of my life. Thank you for changing my life in the best way and I hope that we can work together in the future.’ I got his email and I sent him the email and he responded very quickly saying he’d want to jump on the phone and asked when I was free.”

Holland continued.

“So, two, three days go by and then my family and I went to the pub quiz in our local town. We’re doing a quiz and I’m three pints in, haven’t eaten much, and I get a phone call from an unknown number and I have a feeling. I’m like, ‘I think this is Bob Iger but I’m drunk.’”

Holland says he wept on the phone call, becoming very emotional, understandably so. Now it’s hard to judge how much of an influence this call actually had on the situation, but it surely didn’t hurt, and in the end, we all got what we wanted, Spider-Man back in the MCU.
