Toy Story 4 Could Possibly Break Opening Weekend Records Dethroning Incredibles 2

The phrase “Shut up and take my money” seems like it’s Disney’s theme for 2019. We have already got films like Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame and the live action Aladdin and Dumbo. Last night they unveiled Star Wars land in Anaheim, California. Keeping mind they still have The Lion King, Toy Story 4, Frozen 2 and a little film titled Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to wrap up the year? Oh! let’s not forget their streaming service Disney+ launching this fall. Let’s be honest, none of these things mentioned above really even need marketing. To further my point let’s look at the tracking for Toy Story 4, which hits theaters this fall.

According to Deadline, the tracking for Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 4, which is the FOURTH film in the franchise, has the opportunity to set a new opening record for an animation film. This spot is currently being held by another Disney/Pixar film Incredibles 2, which last year earned $182.6 million in it’s first three days. Analysts are predicting that Toy Story 4 could bring in 10% more than Incredibles 2, putting them over $200 million for it’s first three days.

Evidence of this comes from Fandango and Atom Tickets, who are already reporting that on their first day of the film’s ticket presales, Toy Story 4 has already set a new record for an animated film and outsold Incredibles 2. On Fandango during it’s first 24 hours of advanced ticket sales, it outsold films like Finding Dory, Beauty and the Beast and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. While on Atom Tickets, Toy Story 4 did 50% more than their top three animated film advanced sales COMBINED for the same period of time which include the films Incredibles 2, Ralph Breaks the Internet and Hotel Transylvania 3. Obviously people are very excited about seeing Woody and Buzz again.

Even the horror film Chucky is using the Toy Story hype to promote their film which will be also hitting theaters on the same day. Two of their posters have been clear shots at the beloved Pixar classic as Chucky has presumably taken down Woody and Slinky Dog. Obviously the folks at Disney are really good at giving their audiences what they want, using nostalgia more than anything to connect past and present generations. When I was younger I really enjoyed Toy Story with my parents and now I am doing the same with my daughter. Damn you Disney!
