Toy Story 4 Trailer Will Make You Realize How Much A Sequel Was Needed

I’ve been sitting at my computer here all morning, waiting for the trailer for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood to hit, and instead, I get a little surprise in my inbox from Disney in the form of the Toy Story 4 trailer. And you know what? I’ll take it! Any opportunity to revisit these guys is a welcome one, and as scared as I’ve been that this fourth feature-length foray into this world would fall short of the amazing quality of the first three films.

I’ve now watched the trailer…and I think I’m ready to have my concerns alleviated. The movie, of course, looks like it has plenty of potential for laughs, given the setting, but it also looks to have plenty of potential for some real tear-jerking moments. Seriously, I’m going to cry my eyes out. I can feel it. Between the moments between Woody and Bo Peep and the journey to return back to Bonnie, there is plenty of room conflict.

I’m very surprised at how much territory there was for them to explore on the subject of toys and their masters. It may be vaguely familiar, but seeing it play out with characters we’ve known for so long seems like a good way for them to get me to care a lot more.

Below is the official synopsis for Toy Story 4:

“Woody (voice of Tom Hanks) has always been confident about his place in the world, and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. So when Bonnie’s beloved new craft-project-turned-toy, Forky (voice of Tony Hale), declares himself as “trash” and not a toy, Woody takes it upon himself to show Forky why he should embrace being a toy. But when Bonnie takes the whole gang on her family’s road trip excursion, Woody ends up on an unexpected detour that includes a reunion with his long-lost friend Bo Peep (voice of Annie Potts). After years of being on her own, Bo’s adventurous spirit and life on the road belie her delicate porcelain exterior. As Woody and Bo realize they’re worlds apart when it comes to life as a toy, they soon come to find that’s the least of their worries.”
