Well, anyone feeling the fatigue that comes whenever a studio announces it’s launching a “Cinematic Universe” based around one of its properties may want to click away from here.

It now looks like Hasbro and Paramount are working on expanding their Transformers franchise into an all-out universe. During Hasbro’s 2015 Q1 Earnings Conference Call, CEO Brian Goldner made the following statement regarding the future of the series:

Our plan with the studio and filmmakers, you may have heard some writers being hired and we have in fact brought in Akiva Goldsman to lead a group of writers to really create a strategic plan around Transformers. We think there are any number of stories to be told from the brand that has been around for 30 years with amazing canon and mythology. We would expect the sequel to the Transformers movie [TF4] to happen in 2017.”

Yes, the Transformers series continues to bare fruit, and as long as it does so you can bet that they’re going to milk it for all its worth. Despite being hammered by critics and given a “Meh” by fans, last year’s Transformers: Age of Extinction made over $1 billion on a budget of $210 million.

So, folks, strap yourselves in. The Transformers are going to continue to try and take you for a ride for many years to come.

What aspects of the franchise’s “amazing canon and mythology” are you most excited to see them explore?
