Tyler Perry To Direct A DC Or Marvel Film? Perry Gives An Answer

There is no doubt that director Tyler Perry has a good idea of what audiences are looking for in a movie. His Madea films are often the ridicule of critics, yet score very good with audiences. For example, his film from last year titled Boo! A Madea Halloween has a Rotten Tomato rating of 21 percent, but that didn’t stop audiences as it grossed $73.2 million dollars domestically and opened number one beating out Jack Reacher: Never Go Back starring Tom Cruise. Those type of numbers allowed him to make a sequel Boo 2! A Madea Holloween, which is also projected to do well this weekend despite its 10 percent Rotten Tomato rating. With that said, wouldn’t a talent like Tyler Perry be sought after by other studios?

Well in an interview with ScreenRant for Boo 2! A Madea Halloween, Perry told ScreenRant that he has in fact had conversations with both DC and Marvel regarding the possibility to direct one of their films.

“I’ve had a couple conversations, but I would always say, ‘I’m not the guy to do this’. I’m not the guy that can bring this vision to life cause it takes such a village to pull it together, and I’m not a guy that can work with fifty other directors and producers telling you what to do, how to do it, when to do it. That doesn’t work for me. I saw that in a couple of the sci-fi movies that I’ve been apart of and I think, ‘Uhh, I’m not doing that’.”

With a director like Perry who is used to being able to control so much, it seems reasonable that he would stay away from these big budget super hero films that require a lot of input from a lot of different sources. Not to mention the pressure of delivering a results at the box office all while being in continuity with other films that are set in the same universe directed by others. Based on his comments it’s safe to say that he won’t be directing a DC or Marvel film anytime soon. Although that does not mean that we couldn’t see him acting in one. He has been cast in such films like Star Trek and Gone Girl. Which raises an interesting question, what role do you think Tyler Perry could play in a DC or Marvel Film? Let us know below!
