Jordan Peele may have been in the entertainment industry for many years, but when his directorial debut Get Out hit theaters, his name brought with it a real horror sensibility. His name alone brings with it a certain horror shorthand for a story in the genre that tackles some sort of social matter, be it racial or other. With his next film, Us, he will be tackling something a bit more universal — how we tend to be our own worst enemies.

We’ve already seen the first trailer for the film, but Universal just released a brand-new international trailer. I went into this thing expecting it to be pretty much the same trailer with minor differences, but was pleasantly surprised that this has a completely different narrative structure that focuses more on the silent horrific nature of what’s going on than the actual plot.

While not a lot of drastically different footage is used, it’s different enough to make it worth watching. As a side note, I’m still wondering how the other versions of the leads end up in the same room as the family without things turning bloody really fast. It’s admittedly a minor concern, as I can see this turning into a stiff, awkward, M. Night Shyamalan-esque kind of film where characters do stupid things for no reason…but I hope I’m wrong.

“A mother (Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o from Black Panther, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and 12 Years a Slave) and a father (Winston Duke from Black Panther) take their kids to their beach house expecting to unplug and unwind with friends (including Emmy winner Elizabeth Moss from TV series The Handmaid’s Tale). But as night descends, their serenity turns to tension and chaos when some shocking visitors arrive uninvited.”
