Venom Tracking To Possibly Set October Box-Office Record

As more and more big-budget superhero blockbusters hit theaters, it’s become harder and harder to tell just how much they’ll be making at the box-office. At what point have we reached over-saturation of these comic book movies, and at what point are they misusing characters?

While the theory of superhero fatigue is one that has been disproven time and again (at least for now), I think the idea of misusing certain characters is a real concern, especially in the case of Venom. To many comic book fans, Venom should not exist without Spider-Man, and in this film, we are supposed to believe that Eddie Brock got his powers in a way that doesn’t involve everyone’s favorite webslinger. Fans have made their thoughts abundantly clear on what they think of this film, so it stands to reason that the movie will flop at the box-office, right?

Again, it’s very hard to predict this kind of things, given the number of variables, but the latest report from Boxoffice Pro has the film set to potentially break records for the month of October. According to their latest tracking, which takes into account data taken from the service called Trailer Impact, the film’s opening weekend could range from $55 million to $85 million.

Sure, that’s a wide range, but to me, it’s a pretty high low bar they’re setting there, especially for a film that seems to be getting demolished by fanboys. This opening is also based on reactions to the latest marketing, and is actually revised from its original $30 million to $50 million range, meaning that it’s going up substantially as it gets closer.

They go on to state that the overall mentions the film is getting online are well ahead of Ant-Man and the Wasp, Justice League, Logan, Doctor Strange, and Suicide Squad. That being said, there is one key aspect it is failing with — the positive to negative response ratio. While they didn’t give exact figures, the movie has a much more negative ratio than the other films and matches closer to Fantastic Four.

Given how far we are from the October 12 release, expect this number to go up and down for a bit as we get closer. But as of right now, this is where things stand.

What do you think of these numbers? Where do you think Venom will ultimately land? Let us know down below!
