Vera Farmiga Talks About Her Godzilla: King Of The Monsters Character

Godzilla: King of the Monsters isn’t out until May 2019 in the US, though other reports are saying March 2019 for the UK and parts of Europe. I would not be surprised to see these dates change as the year progresses. As it isn’t out for a while yet, we really don’t know too much about what is going down in the movie. We do know that the titular Godzilla will be facing off against other monsters (duh) in the form of King Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan, but what about some of the human characters?

Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring) is going to be playing Dr. Emma Russell, the mother to Millie Bobby Brown’s (Stranger Things) character and wife to Kyle Chandler’s (The Wolf of Wall Street) Mark Russell. But now Farmiga has spoken with Metro to talk a little bit about her character and what she says does pique my interest.

“I play a paleobiologist. She has figured out a way to communicate with the creatures and potentially control them using their bioacoustics on a sonar level. So she is like a DJ for the monsters.”

That’s interesting, in a way it kind of reminds me of the old Godzilla Cartoon from when I was but a young lad, you know the one with Godzuki? The Humans had a device on their ship which fired off a sonar into the water which would summon Godzilla when they needed it, usually to get them out of trouble with other monsters. I am definitely intrigued to see if Godzilla: King of Monsters can finally match the potential this franchise has.

I don’t know about you folks, but I found Gareth Edward’s Godzilla to be a bit flaky. It wasn’t bad, but I felt like there was a really good movie in there waiting to come out. I hope they can remove some of the attempted subtlety of the first movie and just give us an all-out monster bash in this one, especially with using established villain monsters such as Mothra.

I will leave you with the theme tune to the classic Godzilla Cartoon for a little bit of fun. This is the Godzilla I grew up with, enjoy the retro as it aired from 1978-1981, so I’m showing my age.

Fantastic stuff nostalgia isn’t it? Are you excited to see Godzilla: King of the Monsters when it hits theaters, are you interested in the potential to control the monsters? Sound off in the usual place below.
