VICE Trailer: Christian Bale Pulls A Gary Oldman And Becomes Dick Cheney

If you’re a well-respected actor, you pretty much have to pull on the prosthetics and portray a historical figure at some point, right? I think it’s a law that was written down somewhere. That’s what Leonardo DiCaprio did several years back in J. Edgar, it’s what Gary Oldman did last year in Darkest Hour, and it’s what Christian Bale is doing this Christmas in VICE.

Bale will be taking on the figure of Dick Cheney, the vice president of the United States under the George W. Bush administration. The film comes from Adam McKay, the co-writer and director of The Big Short, which chronicled the collapse of the housing market in the U.S. Using his trademark sharp writing and caricaturization of key figures, I imagine he’ll be able to similarly boil down this intriguing story to its core essence so that idiots like me can understand it. And just like The Big Short, this looks entertaining as hell.

Below is the official synopsis for VICE:

VICE explores the epic story about how a bureaucratic Washington insider quietly became the most powerful man in the world as Vice-President to George W. Bush, reshaping the country and the globe in ways that we still feel today.”
