Vin Diesel Gives Us Our First Look At Ray Garisson In Sony’s Bloodshot

One of my top three characters in the Valiant Universe is without a doubt Bloodshot, aka Ray Garrison. Especially after what comic book writer Jeff Lemire was able to do with the character in their event The Valiant, Bloodshot Reborn, Bloodshot USA, Bloodshot Island and Bloodshot Salvation. Now much to my delight, Valiant is launching their cinematic universe with this amazing character that was created by Kevin VanHook, Don Perlin and Bob Layton back in 1992.

With a 2020 release date, Sony Pictures has described it as an R-rated adaptation “that will be tonally and aesthetically influenced by high-concept sci-fi blockbusters of the late 80s.” With great examples like RobCop, Terminator and Total Recall. The script was written by the very talented Eric Heisserer, who also wrote Arrival and the Netflix horror film Bird Box. The star of the film as we know if going to be the Fast and the Furious actor Vin Diesel, who today via his Instagram account gave us our first look at Ray Garrison. Check it out below!

Ok, I get it, it’s really just a picture of Vin Diesel that really doesn’t tell us much other than the fact he is a soldier. I do wonder however if the film is going to give him a definite origin as Lemire decided not to have his character learn about his past before the nanites and currently in Bloodshot: Rising Spirit, they have been attempting to input different origins in his head. So is this a flashback or a true origin? We’ll have to wait and see.

It is interesting to note however that Diesel in his post calls Garrison “one of the must complex characters I have been fortunate enough to play.” Going from an everyday solider to a killing machine and then trying to regain some of his humanity and identity, it would seem like a pretty difficult character to play with a lot of ranges. Bloodshot was created by Project Rising Spirit, who took Garrison’s body and injected it with nanites as well as wiped his memory. By doing this he received regenerating powers and could even interact with some technology.

What do you think of this image of Diesel? I mean our first look at Ray Garrison? Let us know in the comment section below!
