WandaVision Stars On the Weird Ride We Can Expect To Go On

Now four phases into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it feels like Marvel Studios is ready to go into some weird territory. That San Diego Comic-Con slate really pulled out the odd with film titles like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and it sounds like this bold approach is extending to their Disney+ shows, including the likes of WandaVision, which will bring back our favorite MCU couple.

In the past, actor Elizabeth Olsen has given us tidbits regarding its ‘50s aesthetic, but it sounds like the show will be digging deeper into the whole sitcom idea.

“It is a mash-up between American sitcoms throughout the decades and Marvel film with these characters,” Olsen told EW in a recent interview.

“That’s where it starts,” Bettany added, “and then it sort of snowballs into an epic Marvel movie that you’ve grown to know or love.”

Those who have been sad at how little we’ve seen of Wanda compared to the other characters in the MCU will be in for a real treat, as this show finally gives us time to dig into her as a character.

“Just from starting from Age of Ultron,” Olsen said, “the things that I’ve loved about the Scarlet Witch are things we’re getting to explore now. And I’m very nervous and excited about it in all the fun ways. But I think we finally get to go down some roads in comic books that are favorites and explore, and it’s going to be a wild ride.”

That “comic books” line is sure to please some fans, with some pointing to the House of M storyline as a potential inspiration, wherein Scarlet Witch creates a new reality after suffering a mental breakdown. Given how broken and angry she is after Avengers: Endgame, her wanting to create her own reality with Vision doesn’t seem too farfetched.

Finally, it wouldn’t be WandaVision without Vision, and while their relationship has been a backburner storyline for a couple of movies now, we’ll actually get to see a natural progression.

“I think there’s been a real progression in the characters and the relationship and to actually be able to spend the time on that. Each time there’s more exciting stuff for us to do.… The scripts we are reading so far are so bonkers.”
