Watch The Intense Trailer for A24-Produced High Life

New York-based production company A24 has released the first trailer for the Claire Denis directed science fiction thriller the High Life. At just 3 minutes long, it’s a little hard to tell much of what’s going on, but it is intriguing. It reminds me of Danny Boyle’s Sunshine. I certainly dug the dreadful atmosphere. A24 is blazing a path and committing themselves to a wide variety of genres. Back in 2017, A24 got their first Oscar win under their belt with the Barry Jenkins directed film Moonlight.

Check out the synopsis for the High Life below.

“Monte (Robert Pattinson) and his baby daughter are the last survivors of a damned and dangerous mission to deep space. The crew — death-row inmates led by a doctor (Juliette Binoche) with sinister motives — has vanished. As the mystery of what happened onboard the ship is unraveled, father and daughter must rely on each other to survive as they hurtle toward the oblivion of a black hole.”

The production house is certainly embodying that old moniker strike while the irons hot after inking the deal with Apple in November of 2018. Other films being produced by A24 include the Sophia Coppola directed film On The Rocks, scheduled to begin filming on location in New York. Previously produced films include The Witch and Ex Machina.

I am a sucker for a good science fiction story. Part of me wishes we would have a resurgence in the kind of thought provoking headier science fiction found in films like A Scanner Darkly, and Enemy. We are now living in the golden age of superhero films. I’d like to see more science fiction. A24 is certainly producing some of the genres best. High Life currently has an 84% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
