The film follows a suburban family with a well-meaning, but overbearing and at times autocratic patriarch, the film evokes a wide array of emotions as the family comes together to heal in the from a loss.

The performance of actress Taylor Russell, who plays the teenage daughter Emily in the film is being praised by many. LRM had the pleasure of speaking with Russell during a roundtable, and she commented on the difficulties of actors of color finding hearty roles such as the ones in Waves. You can check out what she had to say below

“Yeah, I mean, I think you don’t see that often in Hollywood because it doesn’t exist usualy, it just doesn’t, especially for people of color. I mena, there’s a lot of storie sabout caucasion kids who go through stuff like that, there’s countless ones for a very long time, I could list many. Just, you know, nothing against the actors in those films it’s jsut that I think there’s only been one narrative about you know, a type of person who can feel sorts of things that are universal that everyone can feels and can connect to.”
