We Now Know Where In The World Carmen Sandiego Will Be In 2019

Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego? A question that today can be answered without looking at a map. Her character was part of an educational computer game franchise where you tried to stop Carmen Sandiego, a super theif, from stealing the worlds treasures all while learning about geography. This iconic series also made it off the computer screen and into books, an animated series that lasted 40 episodes starting in 1994, and a live action game show that starred Lynne Thigpen as “The Chief”.

We will once again be able to follow Carmen thanks to Netflix according to The Tracking Board. They have ordered 22, 22-minute episodes that will premiere in 2019. The series will be based off of the computer games and will include an in depth look at the characters past, giving us insight as to why she became a super thief. The show will try to be both entertaining and educational as Carmen travels around the world. Carmen Sandiego will be voiced by Gina Rodriguez, who is best known for her role in The CW series Jane the Virgin and recently starred in Deepwater Horizon. Also Finn Wolfhard, Stranger Things star, will voice Carmen’s friend and accomplice.

CJ Kettler will serve as executive producer with Caroline Frasner serving as the executive in charge of production for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Duane Capizzi will serve as both co-executive producer and showrunner. Visual design will be done by Kevin Dart and Chromosphere. DHX media will be the animation studio.

This will be a great addition to Netflix as it should draw a viewers who will watch for nostalgic moments as well as new viewers. They have had success bringing back properties like A Series of Unfortunate Events and most recently Voltron, so it comes as no surprise that they would jump at the opportunity to revive Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? and give us a lesson in geography.

Is this a pass for you on Netflix, or are a gumshoe who has been awaiting Carmen Sandiego’s return?
