Were The Avengers: Infinity War Deaths Foreshadowed In Captain America: Civil War?

The Decimation. This was an event that forever changed the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Over the course of a couple short minutes, more than half of our heroes were turned to dust. Sure, this is something we all expect to mostly get reversed down the line, but as of right now, its impact is still greatly felt by many fans out there.

Now, with the benefit of hindsight, us fans are poring over fine details from the past, looking for any hint or foreshadowing that led to the deadly conclusion in Avengers: Infinity War.

Well, one fan has seemingly found one other hint in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. In one of the early scenes of the film, where the Avengers are getting the Sokovia Accords handed to them, they are split on either side of a conference room table. On one side, we have Scarlet Witch, Vision, and Falcon, and on the other, we have War Machine, Black Widow, and Cap. These heroes are perfectly divided based on their survival in the film, with Tony Stark even off in his own seat in the back on Cap’s side of the table. In the film, you may remember, he’s the only one in the group not fighting in Wakanda.

Was this all planned? Well, let’s think this over. It was announced in April of 2015 that Anthony and Joe Russo would be directing Infinity War. Furthermore, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely came on the next month as writers. Production began in late April on Captain America: Civil War, so it is possible this was all planned in the blocking during production (though a part of me doubts they had an idea of who would die that early on).

However, it’s also likely this was done retroactively or that it was a coincidence. Either way, it’s still pretty darn cool and it helps to make these character’s deaths all that more obvious in retrospect.

But what do you think? Was this foreshadowing from the Russos, or just one coincidence? Sound off down below!
