Wesley Snipes Congratulates New Blade Mahershala Ali

The entertainment world is still a buzz after Marvel’s big reveal of what’s to come in the future at San Diego Comic Con this past weekend. One of the big announcements was the inclusion of the vampire hunter Blade into the MCU—and the selection of Mahershala Ali (True Detective, Moonlight) to portray the character. While the choice of having Ali portray the character is a definite plus in regards to talented performers in the MCU, some fans have expressed their sadness over the removal of Wesley Snipes as the human/vampire hybrid.

In response to Marvel’s decision, Snipes issued a statement to The Wrap, congratulating Ali and appreciating the love coming from his fans. Here is the exact message from the man formerly known as Blade:

To all the DAYWALKERS losing their minds right now, chillaaxx. Although the news comes as a surprise, it’s ALL GOOD. Such is the ‘business’ of ‘entertainment!’ Much peace to the MCU crew — always a fan. Honor and respect to the grandmaster Stan… Congratulations and Salaam to Mahershala Ali, a beautiful and talented artist whose expressions I look forward to experiencing for many years to come. Inshallah, we will someday work together… Most importantly to my loyal fans, the incredible outpouring of love is overwhelming. I am grateful for the never-ending support. So, ‘nah fret nah worry, it’s not de end of de story.’ Welcome to the Daywalker Klique.”

Issuing this statement is a classy move on the part of Snipes. While it’s been reported in the past how much Snipes enjoyed playing the character, it’s not surprising to see the studio start over fresh to present him in the current MCU storyline. Moreover, the casting of two-time Oscar winner Ali shows that the character is in the hands of a superbly talented individual—and if Snipes has to be replaced, Ali is a perfect pick to start this new chapter of the vampire hunter.
