What’s The Original Red Ranger Up To These Days?

The Power Rangers are still kicking (see what I did there?).  The most recent adaption took place in 2017, which I honestly didn’t think was that bad, but after a somewhat poor response, there have already been whisperings of either a sequel or reboot. I grew up in the beginning of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers run in 1993.  It wasn’t until Season 2 that my favorite characters, Tommy Oliver (Jason David Frank), debuted but Jason Lee Scott (Austin St. John) was definitely a close second.  He was the original leader of the team and would later return as the Gold Ranger in Power Rangers Zeo and the later joined fellow original cast member Amy Jo Johnson who resumed her role as Kimberly Hart (I used to love her) in Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie.  So clearly St. John is a Power Rangers legend!

Screenrant reported on an interview that Underground Nation had with the former Red Ranger asking him what he thought his character would be up to in 2019 since the franchise is headed towards its 30th anniversary:

“I would see him in a very quiet behind the scenes leadership role. I would see him in an elite special operations unit, behind the scenes, where nobody knew he existed, running things quietly, in command of his operations unit, letting all of the flashy guys have the front line, letting all of the known special operations unit with all the blame, be in the front, letting them have all the news and the media. And he would quietly, with his elite team, be out doing the real work, every day, and never needing credit for it.”

It appears as if St. John has not lost the characteristics and personality of his former character.  His response does sound like how a matured Jason would possibly act. Maybe I am going out on a limb here, but I think that getting some of the old cast back to act as mentors could be a pretty cool concept, especially if they adapted the Green Ranger storyline.  If it is a reboot, then we don’t need another origin story.  If it is a sequel, have the Rangers be somewhat established, but encounter the Green Ranger who is out of their league so that they need to call in the big guns.  Yeah, I can keep dreaming, but it could be cool.

What do you think of Austin St. John’s statements?  Would you like to see some type of follow-up from some of the former cast? Do you want a Power Rangers sequel, or reboot?  If so, what would you want to happen?  Leave your thoughts in the usual spot, and thanks for reading!
