2019 is a big year for superhero films, as well as films and overall nerd content in general. One of the more interesting films will be DC’s Shazam!. The DC property that stars actor Zachary Levi looks to have a big change in tone from previous films, with the big change being fun.

However, the film will not feature it’s title character’s arch nemesis in Black Adam. The film’s director David F. Sandberg recent spoke with CinemaBlend and explained the reasoning behind the move.

I’ve been in on this film since the first trailer, it seems so very different from any of the other DC films. Shazam! seems to be the Tom Hanks film from the 1980s, Big, only with super powers. The film hopes to follow in the footsteps of success that was laid before it by Wonder Woman and most recently, Aquaman, which recently passed the billion dollar mark at the box office.
