Why Karl Urban Joined Thor: Ragnarok

From being a Rider of Rohan in the Lord of the Rings films, to “Bones” McCoy in the Star Trek franchise, Karl Urban has left his mark on the world of nerd cinema. He will next show up as the character Skurge in Thor Ragnarok. LRM‘s own Nancy Tapia had a chance to sit down with Karl Urban and talk to him about what convinced him to come aboard Thor: Ragnarok:

“That was one of the main reasons I decided to take the project was the opportunity to work with Cate [Blanchett] again. We worked together on Lord of the Rings, but we never shared any scenes together, so when I read the script and saw I’d be spending 99 percent of my time with her, I was like, ‘Where do I sign?’”

I don’t think we can blame Urban on this one, as many actors would jump at the chance to work with Cate Blanchett, or someone of her caliber. It shows the kind of a pull a big name can have, and Urban is no small name himself anymore. I have always enjoyed Urban in films and am glad to have him aboard Thor: Ragnarok.

From the trailers, Blanchett looks like she is going to make an awesome villain, and it seems like Urban wanted an opportunity to be involved with that. As I have said before, Thor: Ragnarok just looks like a whole lot of fun at the theater.
