Why Margot Robbie Signed On For Suicide Squad

Harley Quinn was quite the popular character for comics enthusiasts and fans of Batman: The Animated Series before her appearance in 2016’s Suicide Squad, but now the character’s popularity is through the roof!

Margot Robbie brought the infamous DC character to life, and in an interview with Variety, she revealed why she decided to join the cast of Suicide Squad. Was it because she loved the comic? Has she been a Harley Quinn fan most of her life?

Unfortunately, the answer she gave Variety was far simpler than that:

“The reason I signed on for Suicide Squad was because I love End of Watch so much and I saw it about four times at the cinema.”

For context, End of Watch and Suicide Squad were both directed by David Ayer. So, that answer is a little disappointing, but actors sign on for films all the time due to the talents and reputation of the director.

Besides, Robbie is very enthusiastic about Harley now, telling Variety she loves the character because “every character I play, I don’t feel like myself and that’s why I like doing it.”

Robbie continued:

“It’s so weird when people want to know about you because you’re like, wait, my whole job is not being me. Me? I don’t know, I’m boring. But, like, these characters are amazing, ask about them. Harley’s one of those insane characters and people do seem to really like her, so I hope I get to keep playing her.”

For now, Robbie seems to have job security with Suicide Squad 2, Gotham City Sirens, and a possible Joker & Harley Quinn movie, all on DC’s ever changing docket. As for which projects will make it to the big screen? I don’t think even DC knows at this point.
