Wonder Woman 3 Will Have A Contemporary Setting Says Director Patty Jenkins

Patty Jenkins is now putting the finishing touches to Wonder Woman 84 and the director seems all set to carry on into a Wonder Woman 3 at some point. Both Wonder Woman (WW1) and Wonder Woman 84 are period pieces, even though they remain around 60 years apart from one another. So would a third Wonder Woman movie also have a period setting or will we have caught up to modern times?

According to director Patty Jenkins, if she is making Wonder Woman 3 (which sounds all but confirmed), it will definitely have a contemporary setting. Speaking with THR at the recent Sundance Festival, the director talked about not wanting to make another period piece and that it is time to move Diana’s story forward into modern times.

“I’m not set, but I’m not doing another period piece, it’s definitely one of the things we talked about. I’m not planning to put it in the past again, because where are you going to go? You have to go forward. It’s definitely a contemporary story. That’s all I can say. Where we put it and how that gets figured out, I haven’t totally nailed down.”

So there you have it, while the movie is not yet green lit that we know of, unless Wonder Woman 84 bombs hard it seems likely that WB will be keen to sign Jenkins up to round off her trilogy, and that finally Diana Prince will get a solo outing set in modern times. Whether this would be before or after the events of Justice League remains to be seen, but one would hope it is afterwards. I’d genuinely love to see Atlantis and Aquaman show up in a third Wonder Woman movie, even if just a small cameo scene or a consultation from the newly crowned king of Atlantis.

Of course, it’s hard to discuss Wonder Woman 3 too much because we still don’t know where the story of Wonder Woman 84 is going and what consequences that will leave for this universe and Diana. We still have a little bit of a wait for Wonder Woman 84 as the release date was recently pushed from November this year to June 5th next year.

What do you think of Jenkins comments and would you be happy to see Wonder Woman 3 move into modern times? All the world is waiting for you ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba…to let us know what you think they should do. (I love that old theme song!)
