Wonder Woman Director Patty Jenkins Congratulates Black Panther’s Success

At this point, there is no denying the incredible amount of success Black Panther is enjoying at the box office. In four short days, it managed to beat out Justice League‘s entire domestic run, and it’s already shot past $400 million worldwide.

Whenever a film like this has great success, it’s customary for filmmakers from rival studios to congratulate them. After all, what’s good for one film in a genre is good for the entire genre, right? This is an idea that’s not lost on Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins, and the filmmaker took to Twitter to share her enthusiasm about the flick’s success.

“Huge congrats #BlackPanther on the staggering weekend. So happy for your incredibly meaningful success. Wonder Woman posse can’t wait for break in schedule to see it! You’re changing the world. What a wonderful thing! Congrats to you all @theblackpanther #RyanCoogler”

This is an incredibly fitting congratulations. Not only was Wonder Woman a great movie, but it was also another film that exemplified why representation matters. Contrary to the long-held belief in Hollywood that only certain types of people could sell in droves, both Wonder Woman and Black Panther have proven that the world is ready to see both women and people of color on the big screen in huge blockbusters.

I’m all the more interested to see what Jenkins has to say about the film once she actually has a chance to see it.

Black Panther is in theaters now!
