WonderCon: DC Announces Release Date For Swamp Thing

Wondercon is here, and LRM is on the scene ready to bring you the latest and greatest from your favorite studios, publishers, artists, and more!!!

Oh DC… what are you doing? Not making a Hellblazer show that’s for sure! However, we are getting a brand new Swamp Thing show on the DC Universe streaming service and it hits real soon… May 19th!

I find this release date interesting because we have seen absolutely NOTHING from this show… not even concept art. DC really pushed Titans before its release with trailers and photos months before it hit the net. Are they afraid of this? I hope not!

Swamp Thing will tell the story of Abby Arcane and Alec Holland in the swamps of Louisiana. Arcane has returned home to investigate a dangerous virus, where she meets and begins a bond with Holland who is a scientist. Holland dies but is brought back, sorta, by the swamp. This version differs a bit from the original comics and looks to combine elements from various incarnations and stories.

I have some fond memories of the early 90s TV show but have never been a huge fan of the property in general. I don’t hate it, it just never really appealed to me. The one thing I had hoped for from DC was the idea of a Justice League Dark movie, which would have starred Swamp Thing with other mystic characters. There have been some rumblings that John Constantine could be a part of this upcoming series with former star Matt Ryan fueling those hopes by stating his desire to appear in it. I wouldn’t hold my breath for a season 1 showing though.
