Writer For Shazam! Returning To Write The Sequel

It doesn’t come as a surprise that the number one film worldwide this past weekend was David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! from Lew Line and Warner Bros. Pictures. Looks like this is another win for them and DC, joining Wonder Woman and Aquaman as it earned an ‘A’ Cinemascore and a certified fresh fresh Rotten Tomatoes score. Next summer we will get Wonder Woman 1984 and we know that they are working on the sequel for Aquaman 2 and even a Trench spin-off. So would it be too early to ask about a Shazam! sequel?

Not at all. According to TheWrap Shazam! screenplay writer Henry Gayden will be returning to write the film’s sequel for DC and New Line. According to the report Sandberg and producer Peter Safran are both also expected to return. In a previous article, Safran joked about having to get a sequel done quickly as the actors will be growing up pretty quick. So it makes sense for them to try and capitalize on this film’s momentum.

Gayden certainly has his hand full currently working on Last Human, which is a live-action science fiction film from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller that is based on the novel by Lee Bacon. The bidding war for this film was won by Sony/TriStar and it is described as a reverse ET, where an AI society discover a human child. Meanwhile, Shazam! exceeded expectations bringing in $56.8 million domestically and $102.3 million internationally for a total of $159.1 million.
