X-Files Season 11 To Be Gillian Anderson’s Last

The groundbreaking sci-fi series, The X-Files, is set to return this Wednesday, January 4 for the show’s eleventh season. The new season will consist of 10 episodes. Gillian Anderson, who plays one half of the iconic duo, the ever skeptic Dana Scully, recently spoke with TVInsider, and confirmed once again that the upcoming season will be her last portrayal of Agent Scully:

“I’ve said from the beginning this is it for me. I was a bit surprised by people’s [shocked] reaction to my announcement…because my understanding was that this was a single season.”

While it’s a bummer that Anderson is hanging up her gun and F.B.I. badge after Season 11, that doesn’t necessarily mean the end for the show. I for one would watch the continuing adventures of Fox Mulder, even without his longtime partner, and I think while a lot of fans would like to keep the famous team intact, I think they would still watch without Scully.

I always loved The X-Files, I remember it being one of the first television shows that I was really into. Classic teaming of an odd couple, the believer and the skeptic. Mulder always trying to get Scully to simply believe, while Scully did her best to keep Mulder as grounded as possible.
