Zachary Levi Wants Shazam To Go Head-To-Head With Black Adam And Superman

At this past weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con, we got our first glimpse at the upcoming DC comedy superhero film, Shazam! On the panel, star Zachary Levi graced the stage of Hall H, and much of the conversation turned to the actor’s overall childish wonder. If you’ve been following the actor for any stretch of time, it’s very clear that this guy is a huge geek, and his being cast in Shazam! is pretty much a situation of wish-fulfillment for the guy.

More than perhaps any other actor out there, Levi knows the source material behind it, the weight it carries, and he makes no secret of his enthusiasm for the work he’s doing. So enthusiastic is he, that when asked about the potential to take on the likes of Black Adam now, Levi said:

“Hell yeah man! I would love for Shazam! and Black Adam to go head to head, I would love that. And I would love for like Shazam! and Superman to go head to head because in the comic books those have been some iconic fights. You know there’s so many cool things we could with the character, but one movie at a time, I’m just so stoked that we’re here right now. That we made the movie, we got through that winter in Toronto. These talented young fools are just going to continue to take over the world and I’m just going to hang onto their coattails.”

In a world where Superman is so overpowered, having someone like Shazam there, who looks at his abilities with sheer wonderment, could help balance things out in the League — but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. First, we have to wait for this to actually be a good film, but so long as the trailer is an accurate representation of what’s to come, I think we’re good.

Below is the official synopsis for Shazam!:

“We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).”
