Zack Snyder Launches New Production Company Called The Stone Quarry

For the past couple of years, Snyder has seemingly been on a hiatus of sorts. The man stepped down as director following a family tragedy, and in the wake of that and Justice League‘s bombing at the box office, he has seemingly focused inward. He made a dark short film with his family and has only really been present on the social media account Vero, where he chimes in every so often to throw shade or drop tidbits about Batman v Superman or Justice League.

But, of course, the man is a true creative (even if you hate his films), and you can never stop the mind from bringing things into existence. Snyder recently took to (surprise) Vero to launch a new production house, which seems to be sort of a repurposing or rebranding of his existing Cruel & Unusual Films company. Here’s what he posted:

“New year. New Identity.

After 14 amazing years making groundbreaking entertainment under the Cruel & Unusual Films moniker, we’re excited to unveil our new company identity as we move into 2019 and beyond.

Although Cruel & Unusual Films will always be a proud part of our legacy, our new and exciting future creative endeavors will be mined, chiseled and honed in THE STONE QUARRY.”

Also of note at the bottom of the image is kind of a weird tagline that looks like a sort of mission statement:

“The Stone Quarry. A sacred creative place that has been four years in the making.”

So what is this thing? Well, following the tanking of Justice League, it is no surprise he may want to go forward with a new overall identity. Kind of like a new year’s resolution. If you mindfully move forward with intent, then you’re likely to be able to help avoid any pitfalls that have plagued you in the past. This looks to be a way to cleanse the palate, so to speak.

But that’s all just a guess. For all we know, there can be plenty of other differences under the surface that we don’t know about. What intrigues me personally is the “animation” aspect. I’d love to see some animation from Snyder. Give that guy $50 million, an off-the-wall idea, and room to stretch creatively in animation, and I’m sure we’d get something interesting.

But what do you think of this? Are you excited to see Snyder move forward with this new banner? Let us know down below!
