Zack Snyder Will Be Producing James Gunn’s Suicide Squad

Just yesterday, it was reported that former Guardians Of the Galaxy director James Gunn will be directing a Suicide Squad film for Warner Bros. and DC Comics. According to the same report from The Hollywood Reporter, Zack Snyder (300BvS, half of Justice League) and his wife Deborah will be serving as executive producers on the film.

This will mark Gunn’s first project since being ousted from Disney/Marvel for insensitive tweets from over ten years ago. While Snyder left the Justice League director’s chair shortly after the tragic death of his daughter, he and his wife have continued to serve as executive producers for Aquaman and Wonder Woman 1984.

Both Gunn and Snyder being attached to this project serves as somewhat of a reunion between the two. Back in 2004, the two worked together under different titles for the remake of Dawn Of the Dead. Snyder led the film as director while Gunn adapted George A. Romero’s original script. 15 years later, after spending some time on opposite sides of the comic book genre, Gunn and Snyder are teamed up again. Additionally, with the recent news of Ben Affleck no longer playing the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, it seems Gunn’s take on the film will be seen as a relaunch instead of a sequel.

Gunn’s written and directed The Suicide Squad is currently slated for an August 2021 release.
