Zazie Beetz In Talks To Join Joaquin Phoenix Joker Film

In this writer’s opinion, Zazie Beetz is an extremely talented “newcomer” in the acting world. While she’s technically been working since 2013, appearing in multiple short films, it is her performance in Donald Glover’s Atlanta on FX where she grabbed the viewer’s attention. Playing Earn’s ex-girlfriend Van, Beetz commands every scene she is in. Her honest delivery of lines mixed with her subtle conveying of emotion kept you drawn to her. Her strong independence is apparent in every scene she is in.

That essence of hers carries over onto the big screen when she appeared in this year’s Deadpool 2. Playing the strong-willed and very lucky Domino, she fit in nicely with the over-the-top action and super-adult humor without any needed assistance. She holds her own and moreso along side Ryan Reynolds, Brianna Hildebrand and Josh Brolin. Independence, talent and strength mixed with a natural beauty that makes her a standout in the thespian world.

Now, it seems Beetz could be heading into emotionally-darker territory in the comic world. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Beetz is “in talks” to appear in the upcoming Joker film, starring Joaquin Phoenix as the infamous Batman villain. The project is said to be a dark character study in the style of Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver. Scorsese is producing the film and Todd Phillips (The Hangover) will be directing.

No word yet as to how this news would effect her continued work as Domino if Fox (or Disney… or whoever) decides to continue with the character, either in a third Deadpool film or other X-Men-related stories. Joker is set to begin filming in September and is slated for an October 4th, 2019 release.
