Zombieland 2 Didn’t Have Any Reshoots

Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) and Wichita (Emma Stone) in Columbia Pictures’ ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP.

Nowadays, it’s pretty commonplace for movies to have reshoots. Back in the day, that would indicate a problematic movie. After all, why couldn’t they just get it right in the first place? Obviously, the mindset has changed since then, and any film with a blockbuster budget is almost guaranteed to have reshoots baked into the budget and schedule for the movie.

But not all films need the treatment. In this case, I’m talking about Zombieland: Double Tap, Ruben Fleischer’s next big movie. Our own James Burns had a chance to head to the edit bay of the zombie sequel (you can read that entire cover story HERE), and while there, Fleischer shared that his movie didn’t require sequel, which is rare for him.

“I think sometimes when things have too much time you overthink it. The only two movies that I’ve never done re-shoots on are the original Zombieland and this Zombieland. I didn’t do a day of re-shoots on either. To think of doing it without them, I can’t imagine what that version would be like. Maybe down the road we find other survivors and other outposts and they can develop that as a T.V. show or something but no we definitely didn’t ever consider any other version.”

Of course, it is worth pointing out that Zombieland: Double Tap only has a budget of $42 million, but with it sporting so many Oscar-nominated actors at its head, you’d think they’d want to make sure the film was as on-point as humanly possible, right?

Well, from the sound of it, it really didn’t need it, which is good to hear. Let’s hope it manages to live up to the cult legacy of its predecessor.
