Zombieland 2 To Film Early Next Year For Halloween Release, EVERYONE Will Return

After nearly a decade of rumors, false starts, and a failed TV show, it now looks like the fabled Zombieland 2 is actually going to happen. THR is reporting that the Sony film will likely begin filming this coming January in hopes of hitting an October 2019 release date. But the good news doesn’t end there.

If you’re a warm-blooded human, chances are you don’t care for it when sequels nix the original cast or creative talent and trudge forward. Well, it looks like that won’t be a problem on any front. For starters, the entire core cast, including Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin are all set to return int his sequel.

Fresh off his latest film, Venom, the first film’s director Ruben Fleischer will be returning as well in the same capacity. But, of course, the first movie was very much characterized by its script, written by Deadpool and Deadpool 2 scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Those who have also penned the script for the sequel.

So yeah, the gang’s all coming back.

“This is one of those projects that fans have wanted to see happen for a long time — and no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse and Abigail,” said Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch in a statement. “These are some of the most in-demand actors, and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters. We are thrilled Ruben was willing to come back to direct the sequel, as his work on Venom has been truly amazing.”

Here’s what the outlet had to say about the story for the sequel:

“The new movie will once again put the focus on comic mayhem, taking the quartet from the White House to the American heartland as they face off against new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first Zombieland, as well as some new human survivors. But, most of all, according to the studio, they have to face the growing pains of their snarky, makeshift family.”
