‘We’re The Millers’ Sequel Has Found Its Writer
The original centered on the misadventure of a fake family, lead by Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis, that staged a vacation as a way to secretly smuggle 1,400 pounds of marijuana into the US. Their make-believe kids were played by Emma Roberts and Will Poulter. The film opened on August 17, 2012 to take-it-or-leave-it 50/50 reviews, and it looks like plenty of people decided to “take it.” Similar to Identity Thief, another glossy low-brow comedy that wasn’t a critical darling yet went on to do amazingly well, or this year’s Ride Along, We’re The Millers shows that there’s an audience out there for simple, easy-to-sell one-joke comedies.
We’re The Millers was director Thurber’s biggest success since 2004’s knee-slapper Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. It’s likely that the new writer Sztykiel, who didn’t pen the first, will be given some company, since studios seem to be obsessed with having two to four writers on projects like this. The original had four guys credited on the script.
No word yet on when the project will be entering production, or when we should expect to see it in theaters.
