Avengers: Infinity War Set Photo Reveals Age Of Ultron Connection

In less than a year, Avengers: Infinity War, the third film in the acclaimed Avengers franchise will hit theaters. The film will serve as the near-culmination of everything that’s happened in the Marvel Cinematic Universe up to that point. After years of annoying teases, Thanos will finally be brought to the forefront, and the Avengers will be facing their biggest challenge yet. But it’s been a long road there, and not every trip has been a delight.

While the first Avengers was an unprecedented joy, the second film, Avengers: Age of Ultron, was deemed by many to be an inferior film. But it had a lot to do in terms of setting the foundation for films to come. It had to send Hulk away from the team, set up the antagonism between Cap and Iron Man, give Stark feelings of guilt, and also foreshadow the impending war with Thanos. As time as proven, when setting the foundation for things to come, it tends to result in a less fulfilling standalone experience (see Iron Man 2).

But don’t think those foundations will be wasted. In fact, it sounds like Avengers: Age of Ultron’s most boring scene — the Thor vision sequence in the random cave — will be making a return in Infinity War. Specifically, there’s a statue in the halls of the Asgardian building, where Thor and the rest were celebrating some event (before Heimdall lost his mind and accused Thor of leading everyone to Hell). That statue has apparently made a return in Infinity War, thanks to a recent tweet from MCU News and Tweets.

Check it out below:

Of course, one statue does not a vision make. For all we know, that vision was based in some hall that actually exists, and as a result, we see it here. However, the simpler explanation is that the Avengers: Infinity War will actually see the events in that scene brought to fruition, or at least some variation of it.

What do you think? Are Thor and the rest of the Avengers doomed? Is the old man statue the harbinger of bad things to come? Let us know your thoughts down below!

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018.
