It’s February 2016. Adnan Syed has been granted a hearing to examine newly found evidence regarding his murder conviction of Hai Min Lee. If the evidence is accepted, Syed will be granted a new trail.
Episode 2 of HBO’s The Case Against Adnan Syed opens filled with thick tension flowing through Syed’s attorney/family friend Rabia O’Chaudry and the rest of the family. The episode gives a quick look into O’chaudry’s history. She explains how personal family issues—an abusive husband and messy divorce—kept her from being present during Syed’s trial. She was amazed at the conviction given the amount of evidence that didn’t add up or was misconstrued, energizing her to fight for Syed after his conviction.

The episode bounces back to the testimony given by Jay Wilds. Wilds is the individual who confessed to police that Syed had killed Lee. Focus is placed not only on how Wilds’ story changes between interrogations and the stand, it also focuses on how police may have been in a hurry to charge Syed and dismissed evidence that may have countered their conclusions.
The episode also introduces Asia McClain. McClain was first featured in the first season of the popular podcast Serial and was considered of high importance. McClain has long been the key witness who can allegedly place Syed in the school library at the time of Lee’s murder on January 13th.
As those involved in the events surrounding Lee’s murder rehash what they remember, the investigators from QRI—the investigations firm working with the series—look into specific aspects of the case. One of those is Lee’s car and where it was supposedly located. Authorities claimed that her car had been at a location for six to eight weeks. However, that’s not quite what the investigators discover…
Episode 2 is currently available to stream anywhere using the HBO Go or HBO Now apps. The Case Against Adnan Syed airs Sunday nights on HBO.
