JUMANJI: Here’s What We Know So Far, Plus Dwayne Johnson Shares New Set Photo
I know you’re all itching to hear some Jumanji news, because we haven’t heard anything from the production for, like 16 hours.
Admittedly, this has turned into one of the more interesting projects out there for me. Yes, at the end of the day, this is a kid’s property, but the original Jumanji, which starred the legend Robin Williams, had a huge impact on me growing up, and it will forever live on as one of my most vivid theater-going experiences. When news first hit that they’d be revisiting the property, the big question was: how?
Dwayne Johnson, one of the film’s stars rejected any speculation that it was a remake, stating that it would be more of a “continuation.” Some time later, actor Kevin Hart shared the following photo via social media:
Most notable in that photo was Karen Gillan, who was sporting an incredibly Lara Croft-like ensemble. Gillan later took to Twitter to defend the costume choice, assuring fans that there was a reason behind it.
But what was the reason? One particularly strong rumor came from Mashable senior film reporter Jeff Sneider, who claimed the following:
Further rumors seemed to indicate that the Jumanji sequel wouldn’t just be any game, but it would be a video game (though this hasn’t been confirmed).
A few days back, The Rock posted even more photos on Twitter of who he called their “Jumanji Junior,” which backed up the idea that he and the rest of the adult cast were actually avatars. Also interesting is the fact that Jack Black’s character is the avatar for a girl, which I’m sure will be played up for comedic effect.
This finally brings us to the latest news story, wherein Johnson again went on Instagram to post a photo with him and co-star Nick Jonas, who seems to be making his way through several high profile Hollywood films these days.
It’s unclear what Jonas’ role in the film will be, but he’s the latest in several interesting developments in this movie.
What do you think of all this? Are you actually looking forward to it, or was turning the board game into a video game one step too far? Let us know your thoughts below!
