KONG: SKULL ISLAND – King Kong Brings The Destruction In Trailer Tease
When it was first announced that King Kong would be joining the Godzilla universe established in the 2014 film, many were solidly underwhelmed. In the wake of the success of The Avengers, it was easy to lean back on the idea like a crutch. “Just give people more!†seemed to be the general consensus. In a world full of Hollywood remakes, it’s incredibly easy to be cynical whenever a studio makes an obvious cash grab. But so cynical can we get that it’s possible to overlook the fact that cash grabs can still be amazing film.
We need to look no further than the likes of The LEGO Movie and the Marvel Cinematic Universe itself. Each of those movies was largely greenlit to sell toys, and in spite of all that, we’ve seen greatness.
This is all a long preamble for me to say that I was just as cynical when it was announced that WB and Legendary would joining forces to bring these two iconic monsters on the big screen together. It seemed lazy, like they were chasing trends, rather than actually trying something different. However, there can still be greatness in whatever they have to show us, and the first teaser we got a few months ago was evidence of that.
We’re now nearing the end of the year, and with Kong: Skull Island’s release date a handful of months away, it’s about time we got an actual trailer. To tease this, the official Kong twitter account posted a 9-second teaser, showing Kong slamming down pieces of a helicopter.
Check it out below:
If that bit of destruction wasn’t enough, the scratchy, film title stating “All Hail The King†certainly helped to push the intense tone of the film that still pays homage to its source material.
