Let’s Make Robert Zemeckis Immortal! No ‘Back To The Future’ Remakes! EVER!
It was at this point that Universal Pictures started looking into hiring a really good sniper…
“OVER MY DEAD BODY!” That’s basically what directed Robert Zemeckis said in a recent interview when asked if his classic Back To The Future movies would ever get remade. And he means that literally. He co-owns the rights to those films, and he says he’ll never sign off on a remake as long as he is breathing. Somebody get this man a bulletproof vest, a Pope-Mobile, a 24/7 security detail, and- for God’s sake- keep him away Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2!
Here’s the actual quote:
“Oh, God no. That can’t happen until both Bob and I are dead. And then I’m sure they’ll do it, unless there’s a way our estates can stop it. I mean, to me, that’s outrageous. Especially since it’s a good movie. It’s like saying ‘Let’s remake Citizen Kane. Who are we going to get to play Kane?’ What folly, what insanity is that? Why would anyone do that?”
It was at this point, upon hearing Zemeckis compare his movies to Citizen Kane, that James Cameron walked over and said, “Hey, man. Get over yourself.“
(Okay, that last part didn’t happen. Shh…)
So that should come as a comfort to fellow Back To The Future fans. At least one classic film series isn’t going to be remade. For now, at least. Then again, Zemeckis is 63 these days. Hmm…I should put in a call to his doctor and make sure he’s taking good care of himself.
I’ll be back.
Don’t wait.
See you mañana!
