Michael Keaton Confirms Reunion With Tim Burton For Dumbo

With the premiere for Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming done the stars of the film have started to hit different media outlets to promote the film. One of those of those actors is Michael Keaton who plays the antagonist of the film, Adrian Toomes aka The Vulture. He was recently on ABC’s Good Morning America talking about his role as Toomes. The segment has been shared on YouTube and can been seen below.

During the interview where he talked mostly about how much he enjoyed playing Toomes, he was asked if he was in fact reuniting with Tim Burton for Dumbo, to which he responded, “I am reuniting with Tim Burton”. Then he was asked if he was playing the role of the villain to which he responded, “Yes I know, it’s getting old” and then went on to praise Tim Burton by saying, “You just want to be around that guy (…) because he is original and unique and an artist”. That question happens at about the 4:50 mark in the video.

The Burton and Keaton go back as far as 1988 when they worked together on the classic film Beetlejuice. Then a year later, with a lot of people doubting Burton’s casting of Keaton, they went on to make Batman and the sequel Batman Returns in 1991. Since then this will be the first time the two work together on a film.

The rumor is that Keaton’s villainous role in Burton’s Dumbo is a character named Vandemere, who is described as an exploitative circus owner looking to obtain a smaller circus from another character named Madici, which of course includes Dumbo. Given Keaton’s personality I can definitely see him doing a fantastic job in that role.

While this is not the way I would have liked to have Burton and Keaton to reunite, it is hopefully a stepping stone to what I really want, a Beetlejuice sequel. For now I will be content with the fact that we get to see yet another Disney classic come back to life. With the success of such films like Cinderella, Maleficent, The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast I have high hopes to see Dumbo flying around once again on the big screen. The confirmation of Keaton on the project is great news. Are you looking forward to seeing the lovable flying elephant on the big screen? Do you like the reunion of Keaton and Burton? Chime in below!
