New Featurette Tells Us All About Idris Elba’s KRALL In ‘STAR TREK BEYOND’

So I’ve got good news, and I’ve got bad news.

Here goes:

The good news is, if you wanted to learn some more of Idris Elba‘s demonic-looking STAR TREK BEYOND villain, Krall, you’re in luck. There’s a brief featurette that lets you know a little more about the mysterious character, and eludes to some deeper elements regarding his machinations and motivations.

The bad news is, if you’re one of those fans that have hated how loud, blockbuster-y, and bombastic STAR TREK BEYOND has looked in trailers- as opposed to the more thoughtful science fiction that the property is known for- then you’re going to cringe at the return of the Beastie Boys to the soundtrack. 

“Star Trek Beyond,” the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin (“The Fast and the Furious” franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew.  In “Beyond,” the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.

Personally, I like TREK‘s new attitude. Prior to the J.J. Abrams-directed reboot, I’d never managed to sit through a single STAR TREK installment. Not one. I’d never seen an episode of a single TV series based on it, or a movie from start-to-finish. It just wasn’t my thing. It didn’t appeal to me, and I was fine with that. But when STAR TREK came out in 2009, it rocked my world. I actually saw it twice in theaters and bought it as soon as it was available for home release. 

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS? Not so much.

But still, I have to say that I like the tone of these new films far more than anything Trek-related prior to this. That said, I do feel for longtime Trekkies. This is not your Trek, and so this must hurt. Must feel like some sort of bastardization. For you guys, all I can hope is that the new TV series is far more “classic Star Trek,” cause- when it comes to the movies- it’s clear that Paramount wants to blaze a new path for Kirk and Co. One of my very best friends is a Trekkie, and he says that the peace he’s made in his mind is that the movies will be one way and that the TV shows will be another. He thinks it makes sense to do it this way because the mediums demand that.
