The Mummy is quickly approaching like a rapid sandstorm… again. This time Universal Studios is using the property to launch an entire “Universal Monster Universe,” with titles like The Creature of the Black Lagoon and The Invisible Man to follow. Universal is pulling out all the stops this time around, securing both Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe as leads for The Mummy. So why has Tom Cruise not been featured on either teaser poster, thus far?
We’ve already seen two great trailers and posters, but today, finally we get us some Cruise! This new poster comes at you directly from Universal Studios.
The eyes! Oh, the eyes! Watch out Tom!
This time Tom Cruise is front and center in what could very well be a pose taken from any Mission: Impossible or Jack Reacher poster, not that I’m complaining. That being said, I am surprised Cruise wasn’t on the poster released last week, even though he is obviously the focus of the trailer and the film. The main selling point, if you will. He certainly is for me, at least. The Mummy may be the name, but this is really a full throttle Tom Cruise film, with stunts not unlike his Mission: Impossible work. The main difference is that Ethan Hunt doesn’t deal with the supernatural. Nor is he immortal.
The Mummy hits the big screen on June 9, 2017.
