Oscar Isaac Is Down to Play Snake In The Metal Gear Solid Movie

Oscar? Oscar?! OSCAAAAR! Isaac took time during a roundtable with IGN to promote Netflix’s Triple Frontier to discuss the difficulty with adapting video games.

“With the video game thing, I think the trick will be how do you replicate the feeling of what it feels like to play a video game. I think where it goes wrong often is with the plots.”

The host of the roundtable asked the Triple Frontier cast if they would be interested in starring in a video game adaptation. In a pretty funny exchange, Ben Affleck asked why the host was looking at him, Pedro Pascal enthusiastically said he would be in a Dig Dug movie and Oscar Isaac gave the most interesting answer of all.

Metal Gear Solid, that’s the one,” said Isaac, waving his finger in the air. “I’m throwing my hat in for that one.” When asked who would he play, Isaac spreads his hands in disbelief at the question, “Snake, man.”

While stories like this are often fun and give fans fuel to debate with, there was actually a fascinating follow-up to the conversation. After seeing the roundtable, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, director of Kong: Skull Island and attached to the forthcoming Metal Gear Solid movie, shared that he’d made a request to artist BossLogic to Photoshop an image of Isaac as Snake.

As a fan of Isaac and the Metal Gear Series, this exchange was pretty exciting for me to see. I also enjoyed Kong: Skull Island, so I can’t wait to see what the director cooks up for Hideo Kojima’s magnum opus.

Metal Gear Solid is set to be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and written by Jay Basu. No cast or release date have been announced.
