Reese Witherspoon And Mindy Kaling In Talks To Join Ava DuVernay’s A WRINKLE IN TIME

It looks like Disney’s adaptation of the classic children’s book A Wrinkle in Time is getting all the right people for the job. Back in February, we reported that Selma director Ava DuVernay had officially signed on to direct the adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s book, and that the script would be coming from Frozen co-writer Jennifer Lee. That news alone — along with Disney’s current streak of child-friendly films — is enough to inspire confidence that this will be a worthwhile experience, but now THR is reporting that actresses Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling are in talks to join the film.

According to the outlet, Witherspoon and Kaling would be taking on the roles of “former celestial being” Mrs. Whatsit and the “literature-quoting” Mrs. Who. The pair would be joining Oprah Winfrey, who is already on board to play Mrs. Which.

THR describes A Wrinkle in Time as a story that follows “a young girl who finds herself on an interplanetary journey with a schoolmate and her younger brother to locate her missing father, a scientist. They are aided on their quest by a trio of supernatural beings, Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which.”

The film is set to begin production this November.

I find myself in an interesting situation with this film. A Wrinkle in Time is one of those books I read back in 3rd grade. I remember that I’ve read it, and I remember absolutely loving it, but for the life of me, I can’t remember a single, solitary detail about it. As such, I know that, in theory, I should be excited for it, but on the other hand, I don’t know at all what to expect. Given that strange expectation, coupled with the amazing talent that’s lining up to work on this film, I’d say we’re likely in for a surprise when it hits theaters.

What about you? Are you excited to have Witherspoon and Kaling join the rest of the cast and crew on A Wrinkle in Time? Let us know your thoughts down below!
