Ron Perlman Not Thrilled About The Hellboy Reboot News

As reported before, Hellboy is getting a reboot! To this news there have been a lot of mixed reactions. Some very excited to have Hellboy back on screen, others very disappointed that we will not be getting the desired “Hellboy 3” directed by Guillermo del Toro and starring Ron Perlman. The tragedy is that del Toro and Perlman really wanted to get that film done, but in the end del Toro could not get the budget that he wanted. Ron Perlman took to Twitter last night to thank fans supporting his role as well as responding to a tweet from del Toro as shared by Comicbook.com, check them out below.

Thanks to Mike Mignola on Facebook we know that the Hellboy reboot will be directed by Neil Marshall and star David Harbour of Netflix’s Stranger Things. The working title is Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen and is shooting for an R-Rating. The danger in my point of view of rebooting this property is the strong fan support that Perlman and del Toro have. Will fans be too critical of Harbour’s performance or Marshall’s vision of the character? Before we start jumping to conclusions, it’s important we give the filmmaker and actors the opportunity to complete their film. Who knows? We may be pleasantly surprised with the end result.

Hellboy was created by writer Mike Mignola in 1993, who first appeared in San Diego Comic-Con Comics #2. Hellboy is a demon who was summoned by Nazi occultists in 1944, who was then discovered by the Allied Forces which included Professor Trevor Bruttenholm. Professor Bruttenholm went on to from the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense or BPRD for the the United States. Hellboy, who’s real name is Anung Un Rama was raised by the Professor like a normal child and thus possesses a lot of “human” qualities.

Although this is not the Hellboy that we were expecting, we should at least be glad that we will be able to see the demon back on screen. But it is a bummer to see that Perlman and del Toro are not on board with the news, I am sure their film would have been fantastic. What do you think of their comments? Are you on their side or just happy to get another Hellboy film? Chime in below!
