[UPDATED] Surprise! Peter Parker Was In Iron Man 2

– by Joseph Medina

UPDATE: Looks like Tom Holland was trolling, as revealed by an interview with io9.

“It’s funny, I literally had a conversation with Kevin like 20 minutes before [The Huffington Post] interview and he didn’t confirm it, I took it upon myself just because I thought it would be a good story and it’s exploded.”

ORIGINAL STORY:

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of little surprises. While Marvel Studios wasn’t always confident that they’d be able to bring the MCU to fruition in The Avengers, they still had fun peppering little teases early on in their universe. However, there is one tease that not a lot of folks could have seen coming.

Remember that little kid in Iron Man 2 that stands up to one of the rogue drone robots? He had an Iron Man mask on, and he held up his hand to the thing, hoping to blast it away like Tony Stark. Luckily, Stark came in and saved the boy from almost certain destruction. It was a quaint, fun Hollywood moment in an otherwise forgettable film. But who was that kid?

Yes, I know, not everyone’s been wondering, but it turns out we should have. Speaking with The Huffington Post, Peter Parker himself Tom Holland confirmed that the little kid is actually Peter Parker.

“It is Peter Parker. I can confirm that, that is Peter Parker. I can confirm that as of today. I literally had a conversation with Kevin Feige only 20 minutes ago. Maybe I’ve just done a big, old spoiler, but it’s out there now. It’s cool. I like the idea that Peter Parker has been in the universe since the beginning.”

Of course, there’s no way that could have actually been planned back then, during Phase 1. Around that time, The Avengers still hadn’t proved that a team-up flick was possible, and the idea of seeing Spider-Man in this world was barely even a pipe dream.

All the same, given the age of the little boy, it’s very possible Feige looked at that one day and was like, sure, why not? It’s also possible they planted that in there early on and thought, “maybe one day we’ll be able to look back on this and make it connect.

I suppose we’ll never know.

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters on July 7, 2017.
