Westworld May Run Six Or Seven Seasons, Jimmi Simpson May Not Return

Disclaimer: Westworld Spoilers! Take heed.

Westworld was my favorite show last year, I just loved the intrigue and compelling characters, and even though most of the internet had figured out the big reveal early on — the payoff was still worth it. I even did an editorial outlining my crazy and wacky theories for season two which you can read here.  In an interview with QG Style, after being asked about his attire, they were able to sneak in some questions about upcoming seasons of this epic drama.

Simpson starts off the article with a quick little quote that may have slipped past most people, as they hid it quite well in their opening paragraph. They claim he says he says this about Westworld when he gives a prediction about just how many seasons the show would last:

“Six or seven…It’s like The Odyssey”

That is spectacular news for fans, as this indeed could be their next Game of Thrones that they were hoping for when they created the show. I had originally heard that the production costs were very high, and they were hoping for more viewers. However, thanks to the positive word of the internet, it could grow every season just like Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead, and give us years of enjoyment and bewilderment.

Remember, at the end of last season we learned that Simpson’s character William was indeed The Man in Back (Ed Harris), and the story was shot in two (well at least three, but two for them) different timelines. He started off as a mild-mannered gentleman that fell in love with the robot Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and assisted her through most of the show. Towards the end of their storyline, in the past, we saw William getting turned into a more nefarious character, and years later while Dolores was waiting his return we get a big surprise. Young william slowly puts on his black hat, only to reveal in the later timeline to Dolores the truth of his character. This entire storyline is what makes Simpson skepticle of his return, as he says:

“So far, my involvement in that is unclear. If they have more for William, I would assume it would be a whole new kind of story. Because I feel like this story, the love affair, we know everything, we know what happens, we don’t have to belabor that point. But if they have a reason—I mean, it was the greatest set I’ve ever worked on. But we’re all speculating what season two will be, and I think it’ll be something that will blow our minds, to the degree that the first season did. But I wouldn’t be surprised if William showed up season three or something.”

In a way this tells me that he believes that his story is over, at least for the time being. He may be right. I have a feeling that they may all robots in the future timeline anyways, and that Dolores and Maeve may actually be the same robot, from different time periods. This would leave no room for him if they focused on the newer timeline, unless they made a younger version of William as a robot. Some things I cant explain, and it hurts my head to try. But we have never actually seen anyone get killed with proof they are humans. The creepy Destin was “killed” but not with a gun, and he could only be “robot dead.” Also in the final scenes, the Man in Black got shot, which is not suppose to happen to humans. Dr. Ford (Anthony Hopkins) was shot with a gun, again possibly a robot. I also still can’t get past the one phrase where, “Dolores almost has completely new parts [paraphrased],” and the fact she only sees Maeve through or near an object with a reflection, except once. How was Clementine able to make a recovery so quickly after being lobotomized, perhaps this is even a third timeline and the actual “final narrative” was the end scene where Dolores goes on her killing spree! Yup, my head hurts.

Well, we got a long time to wait and speculate! Could this show do as well as Game of Thrones and last as long? How crazy are my theories? Do you think we will ever see Simpson reprise his role again? Let’s hear from you!
