DC and WB really seem to be doubling down on the serious thespian talent. While BATMAN v SUPERMAN wasn’t a failure by any stretch of the imagination (the film’s nearing $850 million in its worldwide gross), it’s definitely a film that could have performed better given its talent and the characters utilized. Given the disappointment, some may have expected that WB would’ve entered the JUSTICE LEAGUE film with a bit more trepidation. Instead, they seem to be barreling ahead with even more determination.
Although the film is currently production, a new piece of news has snuck out. According to THR, actor Willem Dafoe has not only joined the cast for JUSTICE LEAGUE: PART ONE, but JUSTICE LEAGUE: PART TWO as well. His actual role in the films is currently a secret, but given that the film is still over a year a way, there’s plenty of time for that to become known. All the report does say is that Dafoe will be portraying a “good guy.”
Dafoe joins the already-amazing cast that includes Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as the Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon.
Dafoe, of course, is no stranger to comic book films. In the 2000s, he portrayed Norman Osborn, a.k.a the Green Goblin in Sam Raimi’s SPIDER-MAN trilogy. While the actual costume of the character is something that’s chuckled at in today’s day and age, the human portrayal of Osborn himself was something that was praised by many fans, and definitely helped to set a standard of quality for other comic book films to come.
What do you think of Dafoe’s being cast in JUSTICE LEAGUE and what role do you think he will play? Let us know in the comments down below!
JUSTICE LEAGUE: PART ONE is slated to hit theaters on November 17, 2017.
