Zack Snyder Offers A Detailed Look At BATMAN’s Cape & Cowl In JUSTICE LEAGUE

In an age where fans have always kvetched about whether or not the cinematic adaptation matches the books, especially when it comes to costumes, Batman has always soared just below the radar. It’s funny to think that fans have lost their minds about things like Superman’s red shorts, the size of the arachnid on Spider-Man‘s chest, or whether or not Thor wears his helmet in the movies, while being totally fine with Batman’s suit getting reworked every 15 minutes for the last 38 years.

Mind you, I’m not saying there should be controversy. I’ve always been of the mind that filmmakers are perfectly justified in making adjustments, evolutions, and alterations based on what they need for their adaptations. I’ve just always been amused at the way The Dark Knight seems to be immune from these kinds of conversations.

One area where Batman’s suit is constantly being refined is in the cowl, neck, and cape department. He’s ranged from having thick, bulky cowls that don’t even allow him to turn his head, to having barely-there neck armor; From long leathery capes that look like they weigh 110 pounds, to lightweight flowing capes that look like they’re made out of what my wife would wear to do yoga. Sometimes his suit has been all one color, and others it’s been a combination of gray and black. I could go on and on.

In Christopher Nolan’s Bat Trilogy, they even made a joke about the neck thing, specifically, when Morgan Freeman’s Lucious Fox stated dryly, “You want to be able to turn your head.” In this new image, shared by Justice League director Zack Snyder, we get a great, detailed look at the latest evolution of the character’s cape, neck, and cowl:

What do you think of this latest look at the suit Ben Affleck will don when he plays Batman in Justice League

It’s kind of cool to see a texture on the wings that make them appear more like actual batwings, all leathery and almost scaly.

Oh, and in case you needed a reminder what good ol’ Bats and his cohorts will be up to when Justice League arrives on November 11, here’s the official synopsis again:

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
